Gospel from Vancouver BC
Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir is known for its dynamic vocal sound, excellence in performance and a commitment to sharing the “good noise” that is gospel music. The choir’s mandate is to develop and promote an appreciation and understanding of gospel music in all its many styles and forms and introduce audiences to the unique and powerful aspects of this music.
Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir is an auditioned community choir, with no specific religious affiliation. The choir calls Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver, British Columbia “home” as a choir in residence. In addition to rehearsing and performing at the Cathedral, Good Noise enjoys collaborating with the Cathedral Choir in special performances and most recently co-commissioning a new choral work by Paul Halley, “The Dawning”, performing its world premiere in June 2011.
The choir, founded in 2004 as gospel choir in residence at Christ Church Cathedral, is directed by founding artistic director Gail Suderman. With her reputation as an outstanding voice teacher and conductor, Gail brings with her the ability to guide singers in finding their voices as well as her skill in directing a gospel choir that is known for vocal and musical integrity. Known in both the classical and contemporary music communities as an outstanding performer, conductor, accompanist and voice teacher, Gail brings many years of formal music studies as well as many years of performing experience to her role as leader of Good Noise.
In addition to being known for its vocal sound and music, Good Noise is also known for the outstanding musicians that accompany the choir. Gail directs the choir from the piano, and the choir is honoured to work with Mike Kalanj on Hammond B3, Laurence Mollerup on Bass Guitar and Double Bass, Elliot Polsky on Drums and Percussion and Ingrid Stitt on Alto and Soprano Saxophones.
