Aventa Ensemble was founded in 2003 to fill a need in Victoria for a professional ensemble capable of performing a wide range of repertoire. As well as promoting Canadian works, Aventa also programs new works from the international repertoire. A highlight during the opening season was the Canadian premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' De Assumtione Beatae Mariae Virginis, which was met with critical acclaim.

Our 2004-2005 season began in September with acclaimed Canadian pianist Louis Lortie performing the Canadian Premiere of Thomas Adès' Concerto Conciso. In addition to a wide range of national and international music, this season will also feature works by local Victoria composers Wolf Edwards and Douglas Schmidt. In February, Aventa is proud to host Quebec composer in a series of concerts dedicated to his work. The season closes in May with guest violinist John Lowry joining members of Aventa for works by Abrahamsen and Ligeti.
Aventa is comprised of approximately fifteen musicians, which are drawn from the ranks of the Victoria Symphony, University of Victoria and Victoria Conservatory of Music as well as freelance players. The ensemble is under the artistic direction of William Linwood
