Hawthorne Heights
A remarkable achievement, the group’s sophomore disc was produced by David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamin, Towers Of London) and showcases the band is growing by leaps and bounds. If Only You Were Lonely tests the boundaries of the emo and screamo music genres, adding deeper and darker layers of guitars (the band boasts three guitarists) and a more diverse selection of material. From the uber-catchy emo tracks they are known for to more metallic offerings and even a piano ballad reminiscent of the Beach Boys, If Only You Were Lonely taps into heavyweight influences such as Led Zeppelin and Nirvana. The result is a record that proves the Dayton, Ohio band’s fiery post-hardcore is expansive and textural enough to reach beyond the confines of genre and establish Hawthorne Heights as, simply, one of the most promising new rock bands in years.
