Pioneer of the local food movement and co-author of The 100-Mile Diet, J.B. MacKinnon will be reading as part of Open Word: Readings and Ideas, a literary series hosted by Open Space in partnership with the University of Victoria Department of Writing.McKinnon will read at the University of Victoria on Monday, October 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the Human and Social Development Building (HSD), Room A240. His reading at Open Space will take place on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. A final talk with the writer at the University of Victoria will occur Wednesday, October 19 at 9:30 a.m. in the MacLaurin Building (MAC), Room D281.
Winner of six National Magazine Awards and the 2006 Charles Taylor Prize for his novel Dead Man in Paradise, J.B. MacKinnon is a journalist who writes on ecology, the outdoors, and other topics. MacKinnon’s work appears in publications ranging from The New Yorker to Adbusters, while The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating is recognized as a catalyst of the local food movement. MacKinnon’s latest book is the national bestseller The Once and Future World: Nature As It Was, As It Is, As It Could Be, winner of the International Green Prize for Sustainable Literature. He currently lives in Vancouver.
