Event Description
March 9th - 2-6PM at Distrikt nightclub (Strathcona Hotel) we are hosting an event. It is called Give Them Their Flowers and it is planned as a tribute to the older living blues players in Victoria with the idea of becoming an annual event. Each year the honorees will change. This year the honorees are: Ed Wright, Derek Walsh, Mark Comerford, Marcus Hondro, Ray Luxemburg, Henning Kanstrup and Charles Gates. A poster will be out soon. The honorees will play a set, as will others, including (confirmed): Bill Johnson, Summer Fragomeni, Gary Preston, Deb Rhymer, Andy Graffiti, Jack Lavin, Gary Thompson, Sharon Wadsworth and myself.
There will also be a few moments of silence to remember those who passed this year - Jason Buie, Brian Moore, Lawrie Rugg, Jennifer Bodnar, Frances Woods, Chris Trigg, Steve Kemp and others from the music world such as Otis Rush and Aretha Franklin.
There will be some appies, a memory CD I have been compiling (free to advance ticket holders), a slide show playing on the TVs around the room and the usual options the room offers (food/drinks). The cost will be $20, which will go to covering expenses. We may have some door prizes too and possibly a silent auction.
Tickets for this event are now on sale at Lyle’s and from Deb at the Sunday Blues Jam at The V lounge.
This will be a memorable event and we are hoping to make it an annual celebration!
