Join alumni from Write On! The Songwriting Experience for an intimate “In-the-round” style showcase at the Canmore Folk Music Festival on Sunday, August 3, 1:30-2:30pm at Miners Hall Pub Stage. You need a Canmore Folk Festival ticket (day pass - starting from $95 or weekend pass)Leanne Lightfoot: Channelled through her raw and honest vocals, Leanne Lightfoot’s songwriting reveals the joys and sorrows of life-lessons, and the emotions she knows intimately: matters of the heart, call of land, and the bonds that bind one to another. Adeptly and gently she leads listeners on emotional journeys with her nuanced collection of songs, where past and present intertwine and where heartache and hope coexist, long after the music fades. Leanne has received recognition with her latest album “Still Knowing” being #1 on the CJSW and CFUV Folk/Roots/Blues charts and #1 on the !Earshot National Folk/Roots/Blues chart.
Matthew James: Matthew James is an Australian singer-songwriter whose music explores personal struggles with consuming emotional depth. His debut single, Monsters, earned 2nd place in the Rock category of the 2024 International Songwriting Competition, standing out among nearly 14,000 entries from 112 countries. The track introduced listeners to his raw, introspective storytelling, resonating deeply with themes of inner turmoil and resilience. His latest release, Solace In The Silence, continues this emotional journey, offering a soothing yet powerful reflection on finding peace amid life’s chaos. Now based in Canada, Matthew continues to craft deeply personal music that connects with listeners on a universal level, with more releases on the horizon.
Christie J Simmons: A Calgary-based singer-songwriter whose work blends acoustic clarity with poetic edge. With roots in classical flute, early music, and traditional highland bagpipes, her eclectic musical path informs a sound that is both grounded and unexpected. Her original songs explore memory, landscape, and longing through a folk lens. Christie’s albums Winnie’s Song and Learn You by Heart offer intimate, elegant compositions shaped by years of listening deeply—to music, to silence, and to the stories in between.
