Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering -- a Mid-winter Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) Everyone welcome! Holiday jam at 6:45pm, Festive Singing beginning at 7:30pm, Morris Dancers Mummers Play and Performance to follow, then contra dancing with Shinndig at 8:30pm until 10:00pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the doorThe dark of winter is upon us — what better way to lift our spirits than a Ceilidh? Bring your voices, dancing shoes, some potluck finger-food (savoury or sweet), and all your good cheer to the Folk’s annual year-end party! Doors open at 6:30 pm with the club providing the beverages (tea, coffee, mulled cider) for all. Bring your seasonally themed songs and tunes for the jam and singing circle from 6:45–7:30 — and then the show gets rolling! Denis Donnelly and others will lead us in traditional winter carols, the Morris Dancers return with the Mummer’s Play and Morris dancing, Virgo Rising will give us a few songs, and Shinndig’s new lineup (Ian Johnston, Dick Pollard, Karen Gillmore, Francis Tally & Dorothy Bright) will provide lively dance music for all, with instruction by caller John Erskine so everyone who wishes can participate!
