Event Description
Event type: All AgesFormally daring and often drolly humorous, this typically atypical effort by Gary Kibbins offers an illuminating tour through the preoccupations of one of the country’s foremost media artists. In the latest feature-length work by the longtime writer, experimental filmmaker and Queen’s film faculty member, a wide array of enquiries and ruminations help highlight the ways in which the world becomes ever stranger and less intelligible despite all our attempts to make it more manageable. Everything from Helen of Troy and Heraclitus to ancient hominids and Cary Grant movie clips figure into Kibbins’ cavalcade of ideas and images, making for a viewing experience that’s consistently stimulating and surprising.
This screening will be preceded by the short film FENCING IS COOL (dir. Toby Andrzej Coleman). The film watches a group of fencers navigate a dark, blue dreamscape, while reflecting on their craft. Coleman is a recent Queen’s Film & Media grad. Both these films are making their world premiere!
